A 3-year old girl, playing in the driveway of her University Place home in Washington state, was accidentally run over by her mother’s fiance when he asked a group of children to move so he could head to work. The young child was in front of the tire and unable to be seen by the driver due to the height of the front end of his Ford Expedition. The girl died on the way to the hospital. Pierce County Sheriffs Department Spokesman Ed Troyer said “I’ve seen too many of these over the years. If you have a car that your can’t see over the front end, you just have to get out and do a quick walk-around.” Troyer added it does not appear that the driver will face any charges, and the whole thing looks like a terrible accident. There is nothing worse a person can experience than losing a child. Our condolences go out to the whole family. As Mr. Troyer stated, always check and make sure your car isn’t in danger of hitting a small child, pet, or other equipment before pulling out.
