Fen-Phen Victims: Has Your Situation Worsened?
“In 2004, I was diagnosed with mild heart disease related to Fen-Phen and I received a settlement for my injuries four years later. But a year ago, my situation took a turn for the worse and I had to have mitral valve replacement surgery. Because I took the earlier settlement, do I have any legal options?”
New Compensation for Fen-Phen Victims
If you underwent an aortic or mitral valve replacement surgery at any time after you settled your Fen-Phen claim, you may be entitled to substantial additional benefits from the Fen-Phen Settlement Trust.
The attorneys at Craig Swapp & Associates were extensively involved with original Fen-Phen litigation earlier this decade, and are now continuing their efforts to help victims whose condition has deteriorated over the past several years. Thanks to the $3.75 billion Fen-Phen Settlement Trust, you may be eligible to receive additional compensation.
The Fen-Phen Settlement Trust was established to compensate Fen-Phen victims for additional heart valve surgeries or worsening medical conditions. Compensation is being paid to those who underwent surgery for heart valve repair/replacement, primary pulmonary hypertension, or related complications.

Study Shows Fen-Phen Causes Harm Years Later
In 2008, the medical journal BMC Medicine issued a study of over 5,700 patients who had stopped taking Fen-Phen. The findings showed that several people had significant heart damage that appeared later – up to seven years after taking Fen-Phen.
Charles Dahl, a lead researcher associated with the study, commented on the link between Fen-Phen and heart damage, “Valve problems were common in individuals exposed to fenfluramines, more frequent in females, and associated with duration of drug use in all valves assessed.” He further stated, “We found clear evidence for a strong, graded association between duration of exposure to fenfluramines and prevalence of aortic regurgitation and for mild or greater mitral and tricuspid regurgitation,”
The study’s authors also wrote, “This is probably a conservative estimate, as another study has shown that there exists a 17- to 34-fold excess of clinically apparent valvular disease in persons who used fenfluramines for four months or longer.”
